Thanks! Fascinating learning about how this works. :)
Also, we allow the babies to warm up and crawl in a bucket or prepared hole prior to release. Part of their stamina comes from the crawl to the beach...so they are placed on the beach to crawl which prepares them for their long swim to open water and seaweed beds where they will live for the first few years of their lives.
Share the Beach teams operate per USFWS guidelines. After the initial hatching we wait 72 hours and then excavate the nest. We do this to gather data...how many eggs hatched, how many were infertile, how many pipped...and a total number. If we find hatched babies its a bonus for them. Otherwise they may never make it out of the nest.
How wonderful--are these hatchlings that wouldn't have made it otherwise? How much do you have to let them dig themselves out and how much is it ok to help them?
This was one of the best trips I ever had. Thanks guys for making this possible.
AWESOME!!! I am humbled!!! Keep up the great human effort!!!!
This is a wonderful video and an even more wonderful group of men. We had the privledge of meeting them while they were in Key Largo and to give our thanks. It was an honor to meet them and their families. Lovely video and a lovely song as well. Thank you Simone and Eagle Divers for everything you do. Angels on Earth.
Really amazing, heartwarming stuff. It's so wonderful to see those that have served our country and paid the highest price being loved and seeing the smiles on their faces. Blessings to everyone that has made this program happen. Wonderful video to tell the story!
This is great!
